The Toronto Sun has endorsed Tim Hudak and the Ontario Progressive Conservatives. This is noteworthy because the Sun did NOT endorse Hudak and the PC’s during the last Ontario provincial election in 2011.  At the time, it must have shocked Mr. Hudak – after all, the Sun is an unabashedly conservative newspaper.  But that’s the point – Hudak didn’t come across as a true conservative in the last election.  He tried so hard to appeal to both the right and the left that he was non-committal.

Tim Hudak has clearly decided to take a page from Stephen Harper’s playbook and to campaign as a true conservative with a clear focus on increasing jobs and improving the economy.  However, like the Prime Minister, he realizes that these efforts can’t be funded by borrowing more money.  As the Sun states bluntly, “We cannot go on paying for the government services of today on credit, falling ever deeper into debt, passing on the increasing costs to future generations.”  Hudak is asking Ontario voters to face the “hard truth” and to elect a provincial government that is willing to cut services that employ more workers than needed or that are simply no longer required.
