Polls leading up to the June 12th provincial election in Ontario indicated that most Ontarians (up to 70%) wanted change.  Perhaps people said they wanted change but they apparently didn’t have the courage to vote for it.  Kathleen Wynne and her Liberals not only won the election, but regained a majority of seats at Queen’s Park.

Remember Jack Nicholson’s big line in the movie “A Few Good Men” – “you can’t handle the truth!”  Tim Hudak and his PCs were telling the truth  – that Ontario’s economy is going to continue underperforming until its spending and debt are dealt with effectively, and that dealing with debt and overspending effectively has to include reducing the size of the government’s workforce.  Ontarians proved on June 12th that they aren’t ready to face these facts.

Whether Ontarians like it or not, public sector job losses will definitely happen under Kathleen Wynne.  There’s no choice if she intends to keep her promise of balancing Ontario’s budget by 2017-18.  Public sector union leaders have already acknowledged that this will happen.

The other thing that will definitely happen under Kathleen Wynne is tax increases.  Tim Hudak would have found government waste to help eliminate Ontario’s deficit and start tackling its debt.  Kathleen Wynne will take the easy route and just increase our taxes.  Have you gotten a raise recently?  Don’t get too used to the extra money in your wallet.  Kathleen wants it.

In his thank-you email to supporters, Hudak noted that “Kathleen Wynne promised very different behaviour from what we have seen in the last eleven years…Ontario families expect to see a level of transparency and a standard of conduct that is dramatically different from the Liberal record of recent years.”

Let’s keep pressing Wynne and her government to be better and more trustworthy than they have been in recent years.

Hudak also said that the PCs will continue to “work towards a government that lives within its means, because there is no compassion in borrowing from our children to fund out-of-control spending today.”

Let’s keep pressing Wynne and her government to think about the future and avoid “investing” in expensive new programs that our children will still be paying for when they become taxpayers.

Finally, Hudak said that PCs “will put private sector job creation first in every decision, because turning around Ontario’s jobs crisis is the only way to give real security and prosperity to Ontario families, and the only way to ensure we can pay for the services we all depend on.”

Let’s support the PCs at Queen’s Park in their efforts to do this.  For PC and Conservative Party members in Ontario, the 28 PC MPPs who will be at Queen’s Park for the next four years are our best hope for rebuilding Ontario.
