Ontario Liberals are at it again.  They are tempting voters with goodies like 10% off energy bills, 30% off post-secondary tuition, and an Ontario Pension Plan in order to buy votes.  Many people think these goodies will be paid for with government money.   But no government has its own money.  Governments don’t earn money; they just tax us and spend OUR money.   And if they spend more money than they get from us in any given year, they borrow it from bankers around the world and we get to pay the interest charges caused by their poor fiscal management.  Right now, thanks to the Liberals, our debt to bankers is approaching $300 billion and we’re paying $10.6 billion per year in interest!  That’s appalling!

As Daniel Dickin wrote in a recent blog on Huff Post, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals have left “a terrible, inexcusable legacy” that will take years for Ontario’s taxpayers to overcome:

It all started in 2003 when Dalton McGuinty pledged to balance the budget and not raise taxes. Suddenly, within a month of taking office, his promise became “oops! We took another look at our plan, and balance won’t be happening any time soon!”

Since then….our debt has doubled. We haven’t seen a balanced budget in years.

The Liberals wasted a billion dollars on eHealth, billions on reckless green energy experiments, and another $1.1 billion on the cancelled gas plants scandal.

We’ve lost manufacturing jobs to other jurisdictions, like Quebec or Michigan.

Public sector employees have been bankrolled with generous salary increases — all paid for by you and me — so the Liberals could count on bought-and-paid-for support come election time.

As for what we can expect from the Liberals in the future, Dickin says:

Kathleen Wynne’s plan promises “only” two more years of deficit spending, with “only” $9 billion in deficit spending for 2015-2016. Then, somehow, two years later, the budget would be balanced, program spending would be the same, and interest payments would be $3 billion higher.

Where that money will come from has yet to be explained. A Liberal government under Wynne would introduce yet another tax: this one a payroll tax that would cost each person up to $3420 per year.

In a democracy, your vote is your say in how you want government to spend TAXPAYERS’ HARD-EARNED MONEY.  Don’t sell your vote in exchange for goodies.  Vote PC!  It’s the only major party in Ontario that is willing to face and deal with the fiscal mess the Liberals have gotten us into.
